At 41 years old, the 1976 Chateau Lunch Bages, a fifth-growth Grand Cru from Bordeaux’s Pauillac area,  scored 17+ points out of 20.  It was listed then 11% to 13% alcohol; I think it was about 12.5%. It cost $24 back then. The new releases cost well over a hundred today and its ranking should be moved up.

The wine was filled with tobacco, leather, black raspberry notes and wet earth. Complex plus!

Served with lamb chops, this Bordeaux was well worth waiting for. It was decanted just 15 minutes before serving and it continued to open for well over half an hour.  In vino veritas.
