At 14.5% alcohol, the 2012 Koyle Royale Carmenere from Alto Colchagua  in Chile, scored a pleasant 16 points on the Dionysian scale of a possible 20.

Some green tea coating black fruit and oak fills the nose; the wine is meant for red meat. At just seven years old, it seems to be peaking.  The grapes came from the Los Lingues Vineyard, well known for fine Carmenere.

Served with a beef dinner and root vegetables. When Carmenere gets fully ripe, it is a fine food wine. This was not in any Loire Valley style at all.

Koyle comes from the Undurraga family, five generations of wine makers. I’ve enjoy their wines for two decades now.  I would have like the alcohol a little lower.  In Vino Veritas.
