Scoring 16 points on the 20-Point Dionysian scale, the 2013 Naturana Wines Carmenere 80%, Cabernet Sauvignon 20%  with 14.5% alcohol was well made.

It was bottle number 2300 of the 6323 made in the Colchagua Valley in Chile. Deep purplish red, with cherry, plum and herbs on its nose, the wine needs about five years to begin to mellow. It may be worth its suggested retail price of about $45  then.

This wine is more modern Californian style with 14.5% alcohol. It doesn’t need all that alcohol. The tannins were ripe, and the Carmenere provided subtle hints of blueberry.

A simple pasta dinner was a fine match and helped showcase the wine.

The wine was aged for 14 months in small French oak. It will take a decade for all the elements to blend together.  In vino veritas.
