Even thought this wine came from a poor vintage, the 1968 Chateau Pape Clement from Graves in Bordeaux surprised us all and scored 17+ points on the Dionysian scale of a possible 20.
It was filled with tobacco, sweet leather and still had hints of black currant.
It has 12% alcohol and was reviewed with Dionysian Mark Imbesi and his wife Marianne. Graves is an area in south Bordeaux that produces long-lived wines. On release, in 1971, it cost about $7.99 , today, they’re in the hundrends. Old complex wines should be paired with very simple dishes. In vino veritas.
