The 1971 Nozzole  Chianti Classico Riserva scored 17 points, cost $6.49 back then on August 8. 1979 when I bought it, had 12.5% alcohol and was a numbered bottle: #3,057.

It was filled with tomato skin notes, red fruits, smoke, tobacco and an earthiness that paired well with a pasta dinner.

This 46 year-old Chianti Riserva was holding at its peak for, I’d guess, the past 10 years. Wines hit a plateau and hold before they decline.

I haven’t bought a Nozzole in some years but will get another, 2015 if possible, and keep it another decade.  After decanting, the wine was orange brown having lost most of its color but the bouquet and taste were exceptional. Kobrand was the sole importer at that time. In Vino Veritas.
