The 1983 Tokaji Aszu scored 17+ points on the 20-point Dionysian Scale. It cost only $16 back then and its14.5% alcohol showed no heat. This Hungarian wine was 5 Puttonos, or it had 5 baskets of sweet grapes added to the must at fermentations end.  You can find the in the range of 3 to 6 Puttonos.

This type of dessert wine usually comes in 500ml bottles and are for dessert, or as an aperitif.

Louis XIV called Tokaji Aszu the “Wine of Kings and the King of Wines” back in the 1700’s. I tend to agree. It is full-bodied, has peach and honey aromas that fill the entire mouth. The after taste last forever. At 34 years old, it has peaked.  Some can easily last over 50 years. In Vino Veritas.
