2001 Modavi Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2001 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon scored 17+ Dionysian points. It cost under $25  when released and with 14.5% alcohol (typical for Californian wines during that decade) the wine had aged well. It had some smoky dark chocolate and complex black fruits. After decanting, it was smooth, balanced and had a long aftertaste.

You can pick up the French oak notes. It was very good drinking young and at 17 years old, it still is good with another five to eight years to hold at peak.

This wine shows Nape Valley at its best.  Served with patotes, lean grilled beef and fresh garden peas, the wine made the meal special.  In Vino Veritas.
