The 2005 Henry’s Drive Cabernet Sauvignon Padthway has 14.5% alcohol and still scored 18+ points on the 20-point Dionysian scale. Costing around $50, it’s one of the very best Australian Cabernet Sauvignons and Kim Longbottom should be proud of it. Still deep colored, with a school-house brick edge, the 15 year-old Cab has just come into the spotlight.

Black fruits and subtle oak fill the nose. After decanting, the wine showed soft tannins and a long, very long aftertaste. I usually stop at 14% alcohol, but when done perfectly, a bit higher didn’t show it or heat it up.

What a great mature Cab to served with grilled steak. This wine made weeks of isolation almost worth it. I’d guess it had another decade to go while holding its peak.

Henry’s drive is, I believe, one of Australia’s top five Cabernet Sauvignon based wines. Compare it to the outrageously priced top Bordeaux, and you’ll see what a true bargain it is. Get some. Lay them down for a while and plan a special dining event. In Vino Veritas.
