Costing about $15, with 13.5% alcohol, and scoring 14+ Dionysian points out of  a possible 20, the 2010 Lockwood Vineyard Pinot Noir from Monterey County  was just pleasant, not like other 16 year-olds I’ve tasted.

The nose was cherry and spice, but with 16 years, the wine developed little bouquet elements over its basic aroma. It was high in acid but with the food, it improved.

The winery is in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County and the wine was simply “cellared and bottled by” Lockwood. Sometimes you get a winner with this notation, but not often. We have no idea who made the wine.

Pinot works with fish, but the sweet potato, salad and fish with cherries, raisons and apples over-powered the wine.

The wine opened up after an hour, but it was very far from being a French Burgundy. In vino veritas.
