Costing about $40 with 15% alcohol, the 2012 Torciano Brunello Di Montalcino, a DOC&G from Tuscany,  scored 17+ points on the Dionysian scale.

It was a fine vintage and the garnet colored wine reflected red fruits, spice and wood notes.

Brunello can age for decades and the 2012 vintage, now on the market, will go at least two decades. This is a lesser known Brunello.

The wine was balanced and needed decanting, not for sediment, but to help it air. Brunello wines should be opened and poured at least two to three hours before dinner.  The DOC means Denominazione di Origine Controllata,  or the “controlled name of origin” and the “G” stands for  Garantita, or “guaranteed”.  It’s the highest standard for Italian wines.   In Vino Veritas.
