The 2013 (noted in Roman numerals) Poggio Anima Belial Sangiovese cost under $18, has 13% alcohol, and scored a nice 16+ on the Dionysian scale of a possible 20.

It had cherry notes with essence of ripe tomato. It was very soft even though the tannins gripped your mouth. The wine could have lasted another decade, but it seems to be at peak.

Served with a red sauce pasta dish with zucchini and onions in the red sauce. It was a perfect match.

It’s an odd label, but the wine reflects Tuscany and the Sangiovese perfectly. A really nice food wine. Look for one. In Vino Veritas.
