Scoring 18 points on the 20-point Dionysian scale, the 2013 Kay Brothers Hillside Shiraz  from McLaren Vale in Australia, has 14% alcohol, and cost about $59. It’s well worth it. Plum, black fruits and gunpowder  mix with the wood and spice aromas. It’s as nice to smell and it is to taste and savor.

Made from 122 year-old vines, it was basket-pressed and had an open fermentation before 18 months of aging in American and Balkan oak barrels. It was bottled on October of 2014 and is still a baby.

Kay Brothers makes traditional wines. They produce wines that can age and are always food wines. This 2013 will drink well into the 2030’s and ’40’s. It’s an impressive wine and should be in your cellar!   In Vino Veritas.
