The 13.5% alcohol 2013 MonTirius Le Domaine Vacqueyras Le Clos cost under $25, is 50% Grenache and 50% Syrah, and scored 18 Dionysian points on the Oldest Wine Society’s 20-point scale.
It was still ruby red at only six years old, but the limited aging still enhanced the Rhone wine. It was silky and filled with spicy notes of red fruit that lingered for a long smooth after taste.
The wine can easily age another decade, but the situation called for a younger Rhone red that has just approached its peak which it will hold for at least a decade. In Vino Veritas.
