The 2013 Wagner Winery Riesling ICE is a special Finger Lakes wine.
By weight, it has 24% Residual Sugar, and was “Grown, Produced and Bottled by,” Wagner Winery. It was higher than most ice wines with 12.1% alcohol. At about $25, the 375ml bottle is a fraction of the German examples. Scoring 17 points on the Dionysian 20-point scale, the wine is a Silver, almost a gold, medal winner.
Full of apricot and hints of honey, the ICE freezing the late harvest grapes and removes the frozen water to ferment the remaining sugar-laden grape juice. Although not a true Ice Wine, it taste the same.
Served with New Jersey blueberries over French vanilla ice cream helped highlight how enjoyable this dessert wine is. In vino veritas.
