The 2014 Amalaya is made from 85% Torrontes and 15% Riesling grapes. It scored 15 Dionysian points on a scale of 20. Costing around $10, this crispt white is dry with mineral and pear aromas and, of course, a distinct Riesling nose of flowers and some petro. Its 13.5% alcohol is fine for food.
The wine comes form the Salta area in Argentina, a high (5,500 feet) dessert area near Chile. Its golden color reflected the citrus flavors making this a refreshing food wine. Try one. I think they’ll age at least six years. In vino veritas.
