The 2014 Traminette from Vineyard View Winery in picturesque Keuka Lake at the Finger Lakes, in New York  has a balanced 12% alcohol and scored 17 points on the scale of 20 in the Dionysian ratings. Cost is around $20 and well worth it.

It was light gold, with distinct Gewurztraminer aromas. As a French hybrid, this grape does very well on the East coast of America and can take very cold weather. It has no foxy scents, and with good acids, it pairs well with many foods.

The grape is a cross of the French hybird, Seyve and the vitis vinifera Gewurztraminer. It was developed in 1965 at the University of Illinois and is made in both a dry and sweeter dessert style. The dry spicy ones tend to be best. In vino veritas.

The spicy Traminette paired well with an asparagus frittata.
