At 13% alcohol, scoring 15+ Dionysian points, and costing under $18, the 2015 Assaf Winery Pinot Gris from the Upper Galilee in Israel was pale in color, had citrus and some spicy notes.

It is a pleasant wine, but with a bit of residual sugar that distracted from it being perfectly balanced. The sweetness is not necessary in a Pinot Gris wine.

It was served with flounder but it was a little sweet and that distracted for a perfect pairing.

I’ve had a lot of wines from Israel ,and most have greatly improved over the past decade. Try some yourself like the Dionysians did at one of their annual Gatherings.  In Vino Veritas.
