From South Africa, there comes a 13.5% alcohol Rose’ costing under $16, and scoring 16+ points on the 20-point Dionysian scale.

Pink rose in color, made from a red grape usually used to darken wines, the 2017 Rustenber Petit Verdot Rose’ from Stellenbosch, South Africa has some cherry and spice on its nose. It is fuller than many Rose’ wines. It will hold for another four years and still be refreshing.

Ideal with shrimp. This is a food Rose’, not just one for an opening reception. I had it with tomato soup and it married well.

You can make a Rose’ from any red grape; Grenache is the usual grape used, but don’t be afraid to try Rose’ from other grapes. I’ve found that Pino tNoir does not made an ideal Rose’, but you can decide for yourself.  In Vino Veritas.
