At 14% alcohol, the 2003 Marques de Riscal Rioja Reserva scored 18 points on the 20-point Dionysian scale. It cost under $25 when released. It was decanted half an hour prior to dinner. It was still bright ruby with a tinge of orange on the edge. It was filled with spice. Dionysian ,Vince Winterling, especially liked how soft it was, and how much the aromas filled your nose.

This wine has been favorite of mine for over 25 years. They always mature well and are perfect food wines with meats or fish.

At 16 years old, it was just coming into its own. Balanced and wanting to pair with food, the Rioja is perfect for so many dishes that I had to lay away more. If I go before they’re ready, my children will get to enjoy them. In Vino Veritas.
