2011 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Himmelreich Riesling Auslese

The Mosel-Saar-Ruwer dessert 2011 Riesling Auslese from Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Himmelreich  scored 18 points on the 20-point Dionysian scale, and its traditional 7.5% alcohol was perfect for the time it was tasted.

Costing under $20 (375ml), the wine had apricot and peach aromas, lingering dried fruit flavors and a refreshing sweetness that was wasn’t cloying at all because the natural acid cleared the mouth.

The wine was drunk in total darkness, outside on a ten area field in the heart of South Jersey deer woods while studying the midnight skies. In vino veritas.

A classic example of German dessert wine. Drunk as, not with, dessert while watching the meteor shower over North America.
